Dr. Shahrzad Prater received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. She obtained her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She completed her post-doctoral residency training also at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where she was awarded a degree in Advanced Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthodpedics. This intensive post-graduate training exposed Dr. Prater to many different bracket systems, such as self-ligating vs. traditional, Invisalign® clear aligners and ceramic brackets, and early treatment modalities to predict and modify jaw discrepancies. Dr. Prater understands that a crooked smile is more than just crooked teeth and may be due to jaw asymmetries or discrepancies.
Dr. Prater understands the multi-disciplinary approach to overall dental health and a beautiful smile. She participates in several multidisciplinary study groups in San Diego. Dr. Prater continues to work with teams of the finest general dentists and specialists in an effort to create and implement comprehensive dental treatment plans for complex adult cases.
Dr. Prater completed her research in cone bean computerized tomography in predicting canine root resorption. As a completely paperless office and all digital X-rays, Dr. Prater is on the cutting edge of orthodontics.

Dr. Prater’s free time is spent with her family. Her son keeps her very busy, not to mention their two dogs. Dr. Prater believes being a parent provides her the compassion to understand and help parents and patients accomplish the smiles they deserve.
